The Lost Citadel of the Incas

Hidden 2,430 metres high in the Peruvian Andes, Machu Picchu escaped the destruction brought by European conquistadors. Its precisely fitted granite walls some blocks weighing over 50 tons stand without mortar, so tight that not even a knife blade can pass between them. Though the Incas had no wheel, they shaped and moved stone with impossible precision. Abandoned for reasons still unknown, the city was swallowed by jungle for centuries before its rediscovery in 1911. Today, it stands as the crowning achievement of Inca engineering.

The reverse, designed by Ludmila Kracíková, DiS., depicts the iconic mountain settlement with the inscription MACHU PICCHU. The shared obverse unites all seven wonders: Christ the Redeemer, Petra, Chichén Itzá, the Colosseum, the Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu, and the Great Wall of China.
