In 1223, Saint Francis of Assisi recreated the birth of Christ in a cave near Greccio, Italy, using a manger, straw, a live ox and donkey, and the faithful of the village. That simple living depiction became the world's first nativity scene, inspiring a Christmas custom that endures across the globe to this day.
The Design
Created by medal maker Mgr. Art. Miroslav Hric, the obverse portrays the Holy Family Baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph beneath the radiant Star of Bethlehem, with an ox and lamb resting below. The reverse features a finely detailed Christmas wreath of pine and holly.
The convex relief is enriched with coloured enamel and antique patina, lending the piece both warmth and timeless elegance.
